I just heard that the Planned housing on lake road has been shut down by the Highlands Act. So now what happens? I think that we all were taken for a ride with that deal. That development was going to pay for the school addition. It's not that we didn't need the room for the school but that was no way to sell it to us. Now all we have is the bill for the planning of it. We as a town are not in the Development business. There using our money for land speculation. Not fair. And far that goes what happens in 2006 when the land fill closes? Up the taxes go again. Think about it. |

I think you are giving the town more power than they actually have. The senior housing plans had been in the works for quite a while and prior to the highlands bill ever being introduced. There was no way the committee could have known that bill was coming, or that it would pass (and I'll stop there before I start a rant about our Governor). Once they did learn about the bill, they did everything they could to try to get the senior housing in before the bill was passed, and even went to Trenton after it passed to try again.
They are not in the development business. That doesn't mean they won't encourage a developer that approaches them about building something like senior housing if it will help keep the taxes down, esp. if it won't have an impact on the school. It was worth a shot. Unfortunately it didn't work.
Regarding the landfill, I believe that was a county decision, not the town. And if I remember correctly, the landfill is in White Township, not Oxford, but I could be mistaken. I know the incinerator is in Oxford.

From the get go the land is all wet. Have you ever walked it I have. Its all down hill. There are spots that are dry but for the most part when it rains it becomes mud. I can't blame them but the starting price was too high. Now I understand that they have there Eyes on OTI. (Oxford textile) I don't care too much If we don't spend any cash on the chase.
In regards about the land fill when it closes where are going to send the trash? Out of state? the cost goes up and so does the taxes. Will we have clean ups? I've been hear when we use to be only allowed 2 bags of garbage and no clean up days. I wonder if there are any plans for that day? |
