Reminders from the Oxford Police Department: |
|
- 11/05/03
- As Winter is
fast approaching, the Oxford Police Department would like to remind all
residents that Local Ordinance # 77B-2 states that "The owner or tenant
of any premises abutting or bordering upon any public street in the
township shall remove all snow, slush, sleet or ice from, on and along
the abutting sidewalks of such streets, avenues or highways, or in the
event of sleet or ice, which may be so frozen as to make removal
impracticable, shall cause sand or rock salt to be spread on the icy
surfaces of the sidewalk within 24 hours after the sleet shall fall or
ice be formed."
- It
is the intention of the Oxford Police Department to enforce this
ordinance to ensure that residents may use our sidewalks without fear of
injury due to the obstruction of those sidewalks. Please be aware
that many of our children use these sidewalks to walk to and from school,
and may be forced to walk in the street if they are obstructed.
Violation of the ordinance shall result in penalties of not less that
$250.00 for each offense. Residents are asked to do their part in
making sure that their respective sidewalks are clear and safe for all.
- As
always if you have any questions concerning this or any other topic,
please fell free to call or stop by the Police Department.

- The Oxford Police would like to warn residents of a telephone scam that
has hit our area. Several complaints have been received in the Hackettstown
area where unknown persons call and offer to lend money at a fantastic
interest rate. The caller then attempts to obtain bank account numbers,
date of birth and social security numbers.
IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU, HANG UP
IMMEDIATELY OR CALL THE OXFORD POLICE DEPARTMENT. DO NOT UNDER ANY
CIRCUMSTANCES, GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS,
PLEASE CALL THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AT 453-4133 AND ASK TO SPEAK TO AN
OFFICER.

As a reminder to all residents and visiting fisherman, the Oxford Police
Department would like to remind everyone that local ordinance # 72-1 (R) prohibits "frequenting
any waters or places designated for the purpose of swimming or bathing, or
congregate thereat, except between such hours of the day as shall be designated
for such purposes for each individual site." To date, there have been several
incidents where officers have found person(s) fishing on the beach area at
Oxford Lake. Warnings have been issued up to this point, and it is the
intention of the Police Department to rectify this on going problem prior to any
summonses being issued.
The
Oxford Police Department would like to ask all those who frequent Oxford Lake to
please abide by local and state statutes as they may apply to the use of the
lake property. If anyone has any questions concerning this particular
statute, or any other, please feel free to contact Lt. Charles Lilly at any
time at (908) 453-4133.
